Amanda H. Smith
My name is Amanda H. Smith, and I am going into my 10th year teaching high school mathematics.
I most recently taught at Guajome Park Academy, a charter school in Vista, California. For the 2020-2021 school year, I taught IB Math Applications & Interpretations (SL and HL, 11th and 12th grades) and also served as a High School Math Intervention Specialist. In my role as an intervention specialist, I pushed in as a co-teacher to help students in Algebra 1, Geometry, and Algebra 2 classes who struggled with adapting to distance & hybrid learning.
I previously taught for eight years at West Forsyth High School in Cumming, Georgia (2012-2020). While there, I gained six years of experience teaching AP Calculus AB and two years of experience teaching AP Calculus BC. I also taught various other mathematics courses during my time there, including Support classes up to Accelerated Honors, and from 9th grade up through 12th.
My family relocated to Southern California in 2020, and I am credentialed to teach mathematics in both California and Georgia. I am also credentialed to teach psychology in California and have the English Learner Authorization (ELA1). Please see my resume for details!
I am passionate about making mathematics accessible, relatable, and fun for my students. I strive to inspire curiosity and questioning in my students, and my pedagogy centers on empathy and respect for all learners.
